Background
The UNICEF report on sexual child abuse stated that one in five girls/women and one in seven
boys/men experienced non-contact sexual abuse as a child [1]
The "CyberTipline" [2] showed an increase in OCSA in general but esp. between the ages 3-6.
This coincides with Germanys criminal statistics showing an increase from 25 % from 2017 to
2022 [3]. OCSA causes as severe harm as contact child sexual abuse (CSA) [4].
Aims: Therefor OCSA needs to be integrated in any assessment and treatment of children and
adolescent presenting in the health care system.
Methods: As part of the EU research project “PROMISE ELPIS” interviews with professionals,
a systematic research review and review of high-quality guidelines were administered to
develop psychosocial and medical intervention guidelines in connection to OCSA.
Results: There is very little research regarding what type of initial and immediate psychosocial
and medical support in cases of OCSA are needed and what is effective. Existing guidelines
don´t and few psychotherapeutic approaches include OCSA. OCSA often times causes a high
level of loss of control, shame and guilt in the patient and its system.
Conclusion: International and national guidelines are needed. OCSA specific psychotherapeutic
approaches are needed, focusing on loss of control, shame and guilt in the child and the system.

Participants will learn
1) the different types of OCSA and their risks for CSA and exploitation [5]
2) That OCSA can lead to CSA and CSA to OCSA
3) The specific challenges of OCSA and EMDR treatment with children and adolescent
