Background
Stories have been shared since millennia to preserve culture, teach moral values, and to provide context and meaning for human-kind. The human mind grasps stories and holds narratives about the self and others, for better and for worse. Story telling resonates across all ages.

The application of narratives within an EMDR approach was first introduced by Joan Lovett in the treatment of children who were pre-verbal and could not always tell the story of what happened themselves. Since then, the creative use of narratives within EMDR has been applied to impactful moments and developmental stages throughout the lifespan – from infant to older adult.

Aims
This presentation will introduce to attendees the differences between EMDR Story-telling to 'process' or to 'resource'. With a specific focus on loss, grief and end of life across the age span, this presentation will use case examples to illustrate the application of story-telling with EMDR for differing client needs.

Method
Case examples are used throughout this presentation to illuminate how the use of narratives can be customized to client needs.

Learning Objectives: Attendees will learn...
1. How to use narratives in EMDR
2. The difference between a processing narrative and a resourcing narrative - and how to choose the best fit for their client's need
3. Why the form of narrative needs to differ across the age span

Opportunities for questions and discussion will be provided during the workshop in a live, collaborative format.

The importance of taking into account attachment while working with complex trauma and dissociation cases is well recognized [1]. Using interventions which activate the cooperation action system are important in order to limit destabilization [2]. In this workshop, we propose specific interventions in order to assess relational resources and attachment-based trauma without destabilization during history taking and conceptualization,
specific relational stabilization criteria and tools, attachment based interweaves through the different phases of the EMDR basic protocol, and specific phase 8 interventions using attachment resources. We will show practical exercises to assess relational quality through the use of the cooperation system of the client and the therapist. There will be practical exercises about the use of relational resources through stabilization. Other stabilization tools will be described. We will discuss target selection, and propose a hierarchy of target reprocessing in order to achieve and maintain relational stabilization through EMDR Therapy. We will describe different kinds of interventions during phase 3 to 7, and describe an EMDR derived soft protocol in order to reprocess relationship wounds.

Learning objectives
- Participants will learn a tool in order to assess relational stability, while using the cooperation system of the client
- Learning specific relational stabilization tools and stabilization of the attachment system
- Learning interweaves using relational resources during target reprocessing in order to maintain stability
