Background and aims
The resource-based early EMDR group intervention “G-TEP” showed promising results in reducing PTSD, depression and anxiety in various settings. Using a high structured worksheet the patients conduct self-bilateral stimulation while (re-)processing their targets. In two studies, we examined the effectiveness and practicability of G-TEP in an outpatient setting and its implementation process in hospital treatment.
Methods
Patients received four ambulatory G-TEP sessions in a delayed waitlist control group design. We observed changes in symptoms using IES-R, BDI-II, BSCL and FDS, and the implementation process of G-TEP in a psychiatric hospital.
Results
Both studies showed significant reductions in subjective units of distress (SUD). Levels of concomitant impairments improved. Patients reported their traumatic experiences became more "ego-syntonic", levels of avoidance decreased, abilities to manage negative emotions got strengthened and they gained hope. All effects had a positive impact on subsequent treatment processes, some patients already went free of symptoms only with this short G-TEP treatment.
Conclusions
G-TEP effectively alleviates symptoms caused by the stressful experiences. G-TEP can be used as a stand-alone intervention in outpatients and can easily be integrated into a psychiatric ward. It can prevent exacerbation of symptoms and chronification of disease and should be implemented into the health system.
Abstract topic
Using G-TEP in in- and outpatient settings
3 Learning objectives
- knowing the effects of using G-TEP in different settings
- using G-TEP as an upstream treatment
- showing implementation and feasability of G-TEP

                    Online EMDR Group Psychotherapy
9:30 - 10:00Abstract
        Authors
Dr. André Maurício Monteiro1
1Espaço Da Mente
Background and aims
EMDR Therapy may be practised not only as individual 1:1 therapy, but also as group intervention. With the pandemic, the group was moved to a virtual therapy format. In this presentation I describe the steps to adjust EMDR to this setting.
Methods
Exposition + video with group excerpts
Results
Online participants interact in a way that enables individual and collective reprocessing.
Therapists may resort to EMDR group psychotherapy as an online telehealth option to clients.
Conclusions
Online group EMDR is a viable form of EMDR practice, similar to the construction of a collective AIP, enabling on-going psychotherapy to unfold.
Abstract topic
EMDR therapy is efficient at individual and collective levels, both in person and online. This presentation focuses on this less explored environment of online group psychotherapy. A few adjustments to the standard EMDR protocol are necessary in order to create this therapeutic virtual space.
3 Learning objectives
Participants will be able to identify at least 3 items that should compose an objective contract and a subjective agreement to join the group.
Participants will be able to describe the expansion of AIP, viewed as a systemic expression of the brain, considered as a social organ.
Participants will be able to identify and incorporate the use of collective interweaves.
